I started The Strain trilogy by Guillermo Del Toro (director of Hellboy) and even though it’s pretty dark, it’s also really good.
I also have to add Faith Hunter’s Jane Yellowrock series.
A Native American, skin walker, kick ass, woman who turns inot a cougar and hunts vampires.
